Who You Are
You are a dedicated, mission-aligned teacher passionate about the all-girls educational experience. Your teaching capabilities are specific to this role, but you can be versatile across subjects and/or grade levels. As an educator, you possess a deep understanding of and passion for the subjects you teach, fostering a supportive learning environment. What You’ll Do
Teaching & Curriculum Development
- Teach multiple sections of middle school and/or high school Music courses, including but not limited to Music 6, Music 7, Musical Theater 8, and Choir. Some will be one semester courses, while others will be two semesters.
- Additional duties could include monitoring a daily study hall, advising a club and/or a hui (grade level), providing A/V and tech support for commencement and other events, assistance with the Spring musical/play production.
- Depending on the applicant's skills, opportunities to teach/participate in other courses may be available including yearbook proofreader, yearbook advisor, and more to create the potential for a full-time position.
School-Wide Contributions
- Support and uphold La Pietra’s mission and values.
- Work with students, families, and school staff to promote student success and ensure student well-being.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events, including the Winter and Spring Arts Festivals; theatrical productions; admissions, fundraising, and other community events; and support/provide other opportunities to showcase student talents.
- Actively participate in and contribute to general faculty work, such as meetings and professional development, self-study/accreditation, curriculum planning, student supervision, special events, and more. We believe that many hands make light work so we all contribute to the success of the school, our students, and each other.
- Depending on your strengths, experience, and the enrollment needs, potentially teach classes other than Music.
Requirements
Essential requirements
- You have a Bachelor’s degree in Music, Education, or a related field; added bonus if you have an advanced degree.
- You have taught in a full-time capacity for at least two years (or the equivalent to two years full-time).
- You are willing to teach other courses and/or grade levels, as needed.
- You possess a strong awareness of the role boundaries between teacher and student while being a positive role model.
- You're an engaged colleague who thrives on collaborating with other adults.
- You understand and appreciate the context of an all-girls school and the culture, history, and diversity of Hawai‘i.
- You will be here in-person, on campus, ready to get to work no later than August 1, 2025.
Physical & Cognitive Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and community partners.
- Capacity to adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning needs.
- Ability to travel off-campus for performances and/or learning experiences.
- Capacity to move about campus and interact with students in both indoor and outdoor learning environments.
- Ability to use standard office and educational technology, including computers, projectors, and learning management systems.
Work Environment
- This position operates primarily in a classroom, and occasionally outdoors, as appropriate to the lesson/performance.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work for school events.
