About the Role
We seek a passionate and dedicated teacher to join our faculty to teach courses focusing in Art. The ideal candidate will create dynamic, student-centered learning experiences that empower students as informed leaders and engaged community members, while also teaching them valuable skills of self-reflection and personal growth.
Who You Are
You are a dedicated, mission-aligned teacher passionate about the all-girls educational experience. Your teaching capabilities are specific to this role, but you can be versatile across subjects and/or grade levels. As an educator, you possess a deep understanding of and passion for the subjects you teach, fostering a supportive learning environment. You inspire students to reach their full potential, embracing the opportunity to make a lasting impact on tomorrow's leaders. What You’ll Do
Teaching & Curriculum Development
- Teach multiple sections of middle school and/or high school Art courses, including but not limited to Art 6, Art 7, Art 8, Introduction to Visual Arts, Painting, and Drawing. Some will be one semester courses, while others will be two semesters.
- Additional duties include monitoring a daily study hall, advise a club and/or advise a hui (grade level).
School-Wide Contributions
- Work with students, families, and school staff to promote student success and ensure student well-being.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events, including the Winter and Spring Arts Festivals and other opportunities to showcase student talents.
- Actively participate in and contribute to general faculty work, such as meetings and professional development, self-study/accreditation, curriculum planning, student supervision, special events, and more. Many hands make light work so we all contribute to the success of the school, our students, and each other.
- Depending on your strengths, experience, and the enrollment needs, potentially teach classes other than Art.
- Support and uphold La Pietra’s mission and values.
Requirements: Essential requirements
- You have a Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Education, or a related field; added bonus if you have an advanced degree.
- You have taught in a full-time capacity for at least two years (or the equivalent to two years full-time).
- You are willing to teach other courses and/or grade levels, as needed.
- You possess a strong awareness of the role boundaries between teacher and student while being a positive role model.
- You're an engaged colleague who thrives on collaborating with other adults.
- You understand and appreciate the context of an all-girls school and the culture, history, and diversity of Hawai‘i.
- You will be here in-person, on campus, ready to get to work by August 1, 2025.
Physical & Cognitive Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and community partners.
- Capacity to adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning needs.
- Ability to travel for fieldwork and off-campus learning experiences.
- Capacity to move about campus and interact with students in both indoor and outdoor learning environments.
- Ability to use standard office and educational technology, including computers, projectors, and learning management systems.
Work Environment
- This position operates primarily in art studio spaces/classrooms, and occasionally outdoors, as appropriate to the lesson.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work for school events.

About the Place & Purpose Learning Role
We seek a passionate and dedicated teacher to join our faculty to teach courses focused on Place & Purpose Learning. This is an opportunity to inspire young women to develop a strong sense of leadership, civic engagement, and cultural stewardship. The Place & Purpose Learning Teacher will guide students in exploring their connection to place, community, and leadership through hands-on experiences and interdisciplinary learning. Courses integrate themes of land stewardship, civic engagement, and leadership, emphasizing Hawai‘i’s history, environment, and governance. The ideal candidate will create dynamic, student-centered learning experiences that empower students as informed leaders and engaged community members, while also teaching them valuable skills of self-reflection and personal growth.
What You’ll Do
Teaching & Curriculum Development
- Teach Place & Purpose Learning 6, Place & Purpose Learning 7, and Civics in Hawai‘i (Grade 8), fostering a sense of purpose, civic engagement, and environmental stewardship.
- Design and implement interdisciplinary, experiential lessons that connect students with their local environment and community.
- Incorporate project-based learning, fieldwork, and partnerships with local organizations.
- Guide students in developing leadership skills, ethical decision-making, and self-reflection.
School-Wide Contributions
- Participate in faculty meetings, school events, and professional development.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives focused on student leadership and community engagement, including summer programming.
- Support and uphold La Pietra’s mission and values.
- Lead the planning and implementation of May Day.
Requirements: essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Studies, Environmental Studies, Hawaiian Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of teaching experience at the middle school level.
- Strong background in place-based learning, civics, environmental education, or leadership development.
- Passion for working with young women and fostering student leadership.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- You will be here in-person, on campus, ready to get to work by August 1, 2025.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i.
- Experience with experiential and project-based learning approaches.
- Knowledge of Hawaiian culture, history, and environmental stewardship practices.
- Experience in an all-girls independent school setting.
- Experience in leading educational trips that enhance curricular objectives through immersive, real-world learning.
