Hawai‘i School for Girls Shares Kahiau Spirit During Annual Special Guest Day
March 2nd, 2026
Student Special Guest Day Committee member shares details on the school tradition.
Hawai‘i School for Girls is set to host its annual Special Guest Day on Friday, March 6. This beloved school tradition brings students from neighboring public schools in pre-kindergarten through third grade with special needs to the La Pietra campus for a celebration of community.
Planned and led entirely by Hawai‘i School for Girls students, the day comes to life through their creativity and leadership. From the moment guests arrive, students create a welcoming experience grounded in inclusion, kindness, and kahiau—selfless giving. Over 40 students from Haleʻiwa Elementary School, Shafter Elementary School, Waialua Elementary School, and Waikīkī Elementary School are expected to join in the fun.
“We are grateful to continue the beloved tradition of giving back to the community,” said Kristie Han, Dean of Students at Hawai‘i School for Girls and Class of 2000 alumna. “Through the spirit of kahiau and our commitment to service, our students are excited to welcome our guests for a meaningful and joyful day.”
This year’s theme is “Candy Land,” and guests will be paired with Hawai‘i School for Girls students to enjoy a variety of activities–including pony rides, a petting zoo, a bounce house, and carnival games. Additionally, members of the Honolulu Fire and Police Departments will be on hand to give students an up-close look at emergency vehicles, including a fire engine, police car, and ATVs. Young guests will also have the chance to create their own Keiki ID.
