La Pietra Inducts New National Honor Society Members

April 1st, 2022

The newest members inducted into La Pietra's National Honor Society!

The National Honor Society (NHS) was proud to welcome its newest members on Thursday, March 31, 2022. Selected by the Faculty Council for successfully meeting membership requirements, the new members being inducted included seniors Lauren T. and Ivy T., juniors Mehana B. and Sabrina C., and sophomores Elyssa A., Sadie G., Melody H., and Hannah H.

NHS President Victoria H. started off the ceremony by recognizing the eight outstanding students.

"National Honor Society is the nation's oldest, largest, and most prestigious student recognition program. Today's ceremony indicates the continuing emphasis on excellence that we represent for our school and community," Victoria began. "Throughout the year, members of our chapter serve as role models for other students. In addition to the strong academic records which established their eligibility for membership, our chapter members are leaders in other student organizations and have served our school and community through many activities. This includes student mentoring, community volunteering, and fundraising for various organizations"

Led by advisors Ms. Miya Huang and Mrs. Shari Lynn, membership in La Pietra's NHS Chapter is earned by demonstrating four qualities, or pillars, that serve as standards for the society. These include: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

"As Head of School, it's my honor to recognize the students who have taken this first step towards greatness," said Head of School Josh Watson, Ed.D. "As they take that step, it is essential that we acknowledge the support given by the parents and families of these outstanding inductees. Thank you for everything that you have done for our students."

During its founding in 1921, NHS wisely selected its four pillars to guide the selection process. These are designed to find students who do more than talking about scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

"It is our sincere belief that these inductees truly represent this lofty standard," Watson added. "It is a great accomplishment for a student to be recognized in one of the four areas. But when they are combined, these pillars make the greatest impact on our world. Students, we are proud of your efforts and you are well on your way to being future leaders of our community and our nation."

New members Sabrina G. and Sadie G. take the NHS oath.

After the ceremonial lighting of candles, the new inductees recited the NHS pledge and then were each awarded with a certificate from Dr. Watson and Dean of Academics & Faculty Mrs. Jen Grems. This was followed up with the presentation of a pin for each new member, and finally, a rose.

"We are proud of this record of accomplishment and welcome our new members who will bring new energy in support of our continuing work as NHS members," said NHS President Victoria.

Congratulations to the eight new members of La Pietra's NHS Chapter on this wonderful accomplishment!
