Upper School

In grades 9-12, a typical schedule consists of three academic courses requiring final exams and one low-homework-bearing course with no final exam. Back-to-back terms may vary the weight of the academic program.


9th Grade

The 9th grade program includes English, Math, Biology, World Cultures, World Language, Intro to Visual Art, Intro to Music and/or Intro to Theatre, Upper School PE, Today's Living, and Women's and Gender Studies electives.


10th Grade

The 10th grade program includes English, Math, European History, Chemistry, World Language, Intro to Visual Art, Intro to Music and/or Intro to Theatre, Upper School PE, electives, and Women's and Gender Studies electives.


11th Grade

The 11th grade program includes English, Math, US History, Science, Upper School PE, Junior Seminar and electives. For college planning purposes, World Language is strongly recommended. Students must consult with the Academic Dean before selection of courses for their junior year.


12th Grade

The 12th grade program includes English, American Government, Upper School PE, and other requirements still to be fulfilled for graduation. In order to ensure completion of graduation requirements and for college planning purposes, students must consult with the Academic Dean before selection of courses for the senior year.


Online School for Girls

Students are encouraged to take courses through the Online School for Girls by contacting the Academic Dean and seeking approval for registration. Students may earn no more than one credit per year through online courses and must have these credits pre-approved by the Academic Dean in order for the credits to count on a La Pietra transcript for graduation.
