Affording La Pietra
La Pietra is committed to enrolling a student body reflecting the socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic diversity of Hawai‘i. We understand and appreciate the financial commitment families undertake in deciding to send their daughters to La Pietra. While it is the school’s philosophy that each family bears the primary responsibility for supporting the financial costs of private school education for their daughter, each year we devote significant funds to need-based financial aid and merit scholarships for La Pietra students. La Pietra plans to continue this commitment to providing access by assisting families with daughters who have been invited to enroll who might otherwise not be able to consider a La Pietra education for their daughter.
Tuition for grades 6 -12 is $19,700 for the 2018-2019 academic year. Tuition rates are normally set in January for the academic year beginning in August.

La Pietra is committed to creating an inclusive student body by enrolling qualified students from diverse backgrounds. To this end, La Pietra supports an extensive financial aid program by providing need-based financial aid to qualified students who could not otherwise afford to attend the school. While La Pietra’s financial aid resources are limited, La Pietra’s financial aid program assists many young women who desire to attend the school.
Funding for the financial aid program is made possible by the generous donation support of many alumnae, board members, parents, staff, foundations, and friends in the community. La Pietra doesn’t receive any state or federal funding in support of the school’s financial aid program.
La Pietra uses the School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS by NAIS), an independent service utilizing a nationally-recognized, standardized calculation methodology and verified document review in the application process, to help objectively determine demonstrated economic need and a family’s ability to contribute to educational expenses. La Pietra may award a percentage of the recommended SSS-calculated family need.
La Pietra considers many factors when reviewing applications for financial aid including the availability of funds, demonstrated financial need (as determined by the PFS from SSS), information provided in a family’s financial aid application, the total number of financial aid applications and other factors. For current families, the school also considers tuition payment history.
Financial aid awards are made for one academic year. Families must re-apply each new school year to be considered for continuing financial aid assistance.
To apply for financial aid, new and returning families should follow the steps outlined below:
- Complete the online financial aid application by submitting the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) on the School and Student Service (SSS by NAIS) website at https://sssbynais.org by the deadline. (Use La Pietra’s School Code: 4515).
- Upload the required documents to the SSS website by the deadline (including 2018 federal tax forms).
- The financial aid deadline for priority consideration for new and continuing students for the 2019-2020 school year is February 28, 2019.
Financial aid decisions are announced in late March and through April for the upcoming school year for those families who meet the financial aid application deadline. Financial aid documents are held in confidence.
La Pietra does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national and ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, financial aid programs, athletics, and other school-administered programs.
Applying for admissions and financial aid are separate processes. Requesting financial aid consideration doesn’t affect admissions decisions.
The La Pietra – Hawaii School for Girls’ Merit Scholarship recognizes exceptional young women who embody the values and principles that represent our La Pietra spirit. Through the program, the school may award a limited number of partial tuition merit scholarships to candidates who are outstanding new students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, exemplary character, interest in participating in extracurricular programs, and the ability to make positive contributions to La Pietra. Additional need-based aid is available. Families interested in applying for need-based assistance above and beyond the merit scholarship amount may also apply for financial aid by February 28, 2019 online at www.sssbynais.org.
