This Fall Sports Season, we had 65 La Pietra student athletes participating on 11 La Pietra/Pac-5 teams in 7 different sports.
13 sixth grade students joined the La Pietra 6thgrade swimming team this past season. Under the guidance of Coach Maria Jarrell, students got their first experience being on a Lady Panthers team while learning their strokes throughout the season in preparation for their time trials.
Our tradition of Lady Panthers Volleyball continued as our Intermediate Blue, Intermediate White, and Varsity Lady Panthers teams bumped, set, and spiked their way through the season representing La Pietra in ILH Competition. Our varsity team, led by lone senior Sydnie Sambueno, made it to the second round of the ILH postseason tournament before bowing out to eventual ILH Division II champion Mid-Pacific. All student-athletes in the volleyball program showed great improvement, team spirit, and resilience in their competitions throughout the season.
Our Sporter Air Riflery program was in a rebuilding mode this year with 6 first-time junior varsity team members and only two returning varsity team members. The team set their sights on target making tremendous gains throughout the season with seniors, Mary Watts and Emily Pham leading the way. In addition, La Pietra graduate and former Air Riflery team member Rachel Taketa stepped in to join the Lady Panthers coaching staff as the Junior Varsity Sporter Air Riflery head coach this season.
Our Pac-5 kayakers completed their season with the ILH Kayaking Championships. We had five kayakers this season led by Junior Ten Kusaka and Senior Carly Yamada who finished in fourth place and seventh place respectively in distance race of the ILH Kayaking Championship regatta.
Our La Pietra runners blazed the trail for the Pac-5 Cross Country team this past season. Leading the way were Senior Emma Oshiro who was the top varsity runner for the Wolfpack and Jade Heimowitz who was the top Pac-5 Intermediate runner. After representing the Pac-5 Wolfpack team during the ILH season, Emma Oshiro and junior Kaya Heimowitz once again got to represent La Pietra – Hawaii School for Girls when they ran in the HHSAA State Cross Country Championship Race. Emma finished with a time of 23:08 (62ndplace) and Kaya finished 25:35 (179thplace) in the championship race that had 198 runners from across the state participating.
Five 6thgrade students (Hunter Garcia, Anolani Leafchild, Sofia Schultz, Nathalie Sullivan, and Helen Tobin) had the opportunity to run in the 'Iolani Intermediate Invitational Cross Country Meet in early October. The students trained in physical education classes in preparation for the meet and even surprised themselves with how well the team did, finishing in fifth place as a team in the 6thgrade girls' division.
Go team go! Cece Nix and Aris Miyazono cheered and stunted with the Pac-5 Cheerleading teams during the ILH Competitive Cheer season. In addition to cheer on the sidelines of the Pac-5 football games, the intermediate and varsity teams competed in the ILH Competitive Cheer competition season as well.
This year our JV tennis student-athletes, Gigi Graves and Mia Cormack, competed on a combined team with St. Andrew's Priory. The two La Pietra student-athletes were ranked one and two on the team and paired up as the number one seeded doubles pairing on the Co-Op team. Gigi and Mia finished the season winning all but one of their matches when paired together including wins over 'Iolani, Punahou Gold, Mid-Pacific, and Kamehameha Schools.
