College Counseling at La Pietra
La Pietra’s college counseling program consists of both individual and group guidance toward college application and acceptance. During the Junior year, students participate in the Junior Seminar through which the entire college window of information along with SAT Prep are addressed. Families meet with the College Counselor to determine a testing schedule for the SAT and ACT college entrance exams. Also in the Junior year, students complete an Independent Project which can become part of the portfolio for college admission.
During the Senior year, families meet individually with the College Counselor early in the school year to determine their list of colleges for application and then work through a timeline for application. La Pietra students send the majority of applications to colleges by November with most receiving information of acceptance to their colleges by the end of December. Application packets are sent directly from the College Counselor to the Admission Counselors of the respective colleges with a recommendation for admission.
Each fall over 100 colleges and universities are invited to meet with our students on our campus. This allows students to learn about a wide range of college opportunities and to develop a relationship with the representatives from each college. The schedule for 2011-2012 is available here. Each La Pietra graduate is accepted into their first or second choice college selection and generally benefits from merit awards offered by the colleges. For the 25 students in the graduating class of 2011, merit scholarships and awards were received totaling just over $2 million.
