The start of the 2017-2018 school year on August 7, 2017 kicked off La Pietraʻs 53rd year as students, faculty, and staff gathered in the Courtyard.
Dr. Josh Watson gave a warm welcome to students and teachers. "I am excited to be here. One of the special things that we do every year is this [opening assembly], so welcome back. If you are starting for the first day ever at this school, welcome, it is really nice to have you. Everybody here is super nice, so you donʻt have to worry."
Members of the student council performed a skit to energize the entire student body for the first day of school and school year. They called on each class to cheer when they were called. In the skit Senior, Kirsten Konishi, states, "Your hunger for success will only grow. Here at La Pietra, no one will be left behind and everyone will have an amazing year; one that they will remember for the rest of their lives."
The ceremony concluded with a send off from Dr. Watson and instructing students to meet their Hui advisors.
